Artist's Comments

This work of art was created in the days following the 2004 tsunami. Working at night while home alone, my pen seemed to work independently from my physical self as I attempted to work out the myriad of emotions running throughout my mind. Fear, pain, loss, destruction. After stashing the large drawing behind the couch, I was surprised to find it a few months later. Looking at this piece brought back the emotions that were poured into it, but I cannot actually recall putting the strokes on paper.

My deepest appreciation to ~NLY for suggesting this piece as a Daily Deviation, and to ^zeruch for sponsoring it. Once it was selected as a DD, the response was overwhelming. This gave me a chance (as someone with very limited computer and web experience) to become a part of this great community. Thank you to everyone who favorited this and watched me after it was featured. It has enabled me to meet and share artistic visions with fellow creators around the world.

Being a tradtional artist working primarily in 2D, I now know a lot more about digital art, fractals, Bryce, etc. through descriptions of other's artwork. Although I will most likely stay within the traditional art forms, I have developed a huge appreciation for the many varieties of expression on this site.

22" x 34" marker on the back of matte board (the only thing this size I had to work on)

:thanks: Susan

Daily Deviation

Given 2006-03-18

Epicenter by ~poindexter9 is a submission that has some of the better developed uses of geometry/curvilinear forms to make something that implies motion and dynamism. It is left unadorned in a sea of white, where the contrast only heightens the effect. (Suggested by *NLY and Featured by `zeruch)

wow...that definitely depicts all the emotions you were expressing - especially those of confusion and anger

Really spectacular art.

yeah for sure, i feel as if i need to underline various areas to single them out for individual commenting, so many different styles of shape and texture considering the tool that you used. The curves are brilliant, and i think this is the first thing which strikes me about this image... the intense rolling waves, so much water, pure destruction. I can relate to what you were feeling at the time. Brilliant work.

fall.

Another amazing piece.

It seems you have put a lot of emotion into this artwork, the way it should be.

Thanks, James...yes, there are a lot of emotions running through this piece. There were so many thoughts going through my head I could only deal with them by putting them on paper; slashing and burning my way out the other side.

Yes, I don't know why but I can't seem to get my emootions on paper. When I'm angry or sad somehow I don't let myself make artwork... it's strange.
