Artist's Comments

When neighbors placed limbs from a damaged oak tree next to the road, several of the dried leaves were blown into our yard. Loving their unique shapes, I traced them onto a long scrap of illustration board. The leaves were created with a combination of torn magazine pieces and acrylic paint. Dry brush technique and crushed egg shells make up the background. Like most of my work, this could be viewed vertically or horizontally.

I saw Man of War in recent deviations and was impressed...but when I checked out your other works, they just get more and more intricate, more and more enthralling. Good work. And you've convinced me, I'm watching you.

I wrote your name on a piece of paper, but by
accident I threw it away I wrote your name on my
hand, but it washed away. I wrote your name in the
sand, but the waves whispered it away. I wrote your
name in my heart, and forever it will stay.

beautiful beauriful colors.
the background is incredible. i love the idea of eggshells!
it almost looks iridescent. =)

Hi mezzy! Thanks for your kind comments. If you decide to do some collage, save your eggshells and soak them for a bit. Then peel out the inner "skin", dry the shells and crush them. That way they are most permanent. Press them onto your illustration board or canvas to flatten, then be sure to add a coat of clear acrylic matte or gloss after you have them glued onto the surface. It's fun to experiment with different ideas, it keeps your brain fresh!
